The Daily Benefits of Meditation.

"Who has time to sit and do nothing? Not me!"  I scoffed. This is the first thing I said when I first heard about meditation.

Before the calm.

Zooming about trying to do as much as possible in the shortest time-frame had me brimming with impatience. Everything had to be done on time, executed correctly and if anything went wrong, then my whole day was ruined.

I couldn't switch off at night, and I tended to go over scenarios in my head. Re-playing the same situation over and over never helped me to understand why things could go wrong. Sometimes, things go wrong for no reason at all.

I started searching for answers to why I was feeling irritated, annoyed and generally melancholy about most of the good things that were happening in my life. I was always moaning about something, and I needed to get some perspective.

Getting some Headspace.

This is when I found Headspace*. It's a guided meditation app in which you can work through different packs and sessions, allowing you to explore your path through peace.

At first, I didn't have a clue what I was doing however after watching a few in-app demonstrations and completing several sessions, I could feel the benefits. Every single day we are always thinking. These thoughts can vary wildly from work that we are doing, what we need to do when we get home, to daydreaming about our next upcoming holiday. But sometimes, we can get impatient with ourselves, comparing our lives to other peoples without knowing the full story behind them.

The Benefit from Meditating.

I found that I needed time to gather my thoughts. Take a 10-minute break, go through the session, and I found myself much calmer on the other side. I also noticed that I was much more focused.  One of the best things about the meditation is that if done before bed, it prepares me for sleep and I feel that my quality of sleep improves as well.

So far I've meditated 816 minutes (That's just over 81 10-minute sessions), and I feel like it has had a positive effect on my day to day life. Reducing stress, promoting sleep, allowing me to be more focused and best of all, increasing my happiness.

Do you meditate? If so, why? Let me know in the comments below.
