These are my key habits that i find keep me in a good state of mind.
Life can get a little bit overwhelming at times. Working can take over, stress levels rise and sometimes it's easy to lose track of how you're feeling. I stack these habits in order to keep a healthy balance with work, life and everything in between.
I’ve found that journalling is a great way to get out what’s in your head down on paper. Sometimes our thoughts can be firing off in every direction that it’s quite hard to keep track of them. Journalling helps you to gather these thoughts, getting them down in a single narrative. Reading over your entries allows you to reflect on your feelings, moods and allows you to interpret your weeks day by day so you can tweak how you go about life. If somethings not right then you will be able to fix it by noticing through your journal entries.
This is an amazing and often overlooked skill which i've grown to love. Almost every single minute we are thinking about something else or going on autopilot with our thoughts and letting them run the show. Meditation can be hard if you don't know what to do. I use an app called headspace which guides me through the process from start to finish. Slowly but surely i've been refining my method of meditation in 10-minute chunks. After each session, i feel more relaxed, focused and aware of my mood. You need to try it to feel the after effect.
This is the most researched and proven method to boost your mood. Exercising for at least 30 minutes per day has can improve your mood, improve your quality of sleep and can lower stress levels. There are huge benefits to getting active and studies have shown that moderate to intense exercise can boost brain performance when it comes to remembering and recalling information. If exercise was a miracle drug packaged into pill form, everyone would be taking it daily.
Even if it's just for an hour before bed, or maybe 30 minutes first thing in the morning. Reading through a book can help to broaden your knowledge and let you escape from the world at the same time. If there is a topic that you want in-depth information on, someone has probably already written it and packaged it into an easy to read book. Since i started reading, i've managed to gain insight into how habits can be broken down and built back up plus how to stay motivated when life gets far too stressful.
Stacking these 4 habits daily will improve your tolerance to stress, improve your mood, will make you overall happier and you will sleep better. It worked for me and it will work for you.
